Congratulations to Japan on its succcessful defense of its inaugural 2006 WBC title in this year's renewal...

Anyway, per new instructions,I'll either report to jury duty tomorrow afternoon or work my regularly-scheduled afternoon-evening shift depending on instructions to be updated 12-13 hours from now.Considering how yesterday's and today's midday reserve groups were actually needed(normally,it's less common),I'm only keeping my fingers crossed and neither holding my breath or consulting that digital battery operated magic 8 ball at least until after the matter is resolved. In any case,I don't presently use or have ever used Twitter or Facebook both of which have been linked to "Google mistrials."On a lighter note,my sister actually got a summons in the mail;and she gets summoned far less frequently than I do...

Happy 36th birthday to Sakura Kinomoto Sakura Tange...

Anyway, another jury summons(for 3 weeks from now)means one of life's biggest crapshoots. So far,I've only been on either extreme end:actually serving on a one(6½ years ago)or getting told "never mind" at about the time you're supposed to check back on whether to report(twice since then)with nothing in the middle(generally serving only a day or two)...

Anyway,it's a relief that Eriol Hiiragizawa Nozomu Sasaki will be the second seiyuu guest of honor at Sakura Con 2009;as it spares Kappei-sama a worst case scenario, since there's no way they'll invite a third seiyuu this year(Animazement and Anime Expo they aren't),lapi...

Happy birthday to both Gara Takashima(who turns 55)and Kaya Miyake(who turns 24)...

For those who actually made it to Otakon 2008,Kappei-sama's North American con debut was worth the wait. For the rest of us out west, now comes word that he'll be at Sakura-Con in a couple of months.Though the furthest I've traveled has been to eastern Washington state in August 1994 for a family reunion,I'm still uncertain whether I want to make it up to Seattle for this bigger-than-Sac-Anime event even though it's possible to travel from Sacro to Seattle and back without flying...

BTW,my ZEN Vision W has now officially lasted longer as my primary MP3/MP4 player than any other model that I've used...

Happy 39th birthday to Tomoyo Daidouji Junko Iwao...

...and since there seemed to be some long lines upon opening, obnoxious patrons, and other crowd control problems on Saturday when I attended two days of Sac Anime winter edition last year,I opted to go there tomorrow(to minimize over-splurging);and today I instead made yet another trip to Oto's as I was already again running low on certain provisions(that I bring to work for break and/or lunchtime). While there,I did manage to find a Futari wa Purikyua Splash Star mini-spoon...

Happy birthday to Nakuru Akizuki Ryouka Yuzuki(who turns 35),Suzuka Asahina Kanako Mitsuhashi a.k.a. Mrs. Kouji Yusa(who turns 31),and Hajime Tomoya Misato Fukuen(who turns 27)...

My "little" ZEN has arrived;and despite a common glitch that required both it and my Satellite to be rebooted,I've loaded all my tunes to it.However,my fansubs must be converted before they're uploaded to it.That, along with a smaller screen size(though large for a flash player at 2.5 inches)and the need for additional accessories,is why my "big" ZEN will continue to be my primary PMP as long as it's working(even though the little one's covered by an extended warranty and the big one isn't because Fry's didn't offer a product replacement plan when I bought the latter)...

Well, the Urusei Yatsura bilingual manga that recently arrived may be the earliest form of bilingual manga published in Japan:Not only were the volumes published in the mid 1980's(1983-1985,specifically),but also it would be well over a decade before Kodansha started publishing select titles in bilingual form...

Happy 22nd birthday to Yui Makino(voice of the Tsubasa version of Sakura Kinomoto)...

This time,in terms of shopping for imported anime novelties,it was fairly weak.Other than a plush P-chan(different from one I've had for years)and plush Pen-Pen;my haul of imported items included a couple of items(a plush mini-Starman and a Super Mushroom cosplay cap),plus various pencil boards and other novelties from various series(two Akane-less Ranma ½ pencil boards,an Urusei Yatsura pencil board,a Tokyo Babylon pencil board,an Aa!Megamisama pencil board,a Mahou Kishi Rayearth pencil board,a Card Captor Sakura keychain or cell-phone charm,a coin purse and hand warmer each from One Piece, three Kouryu Densetsu Villgust pencil Boards, and various Fruits Basket items some of which were furoku from when it was still running in Hana to Yume)...

However, unlike previous editions,I attended on more than one day:yesterday and today.Additionally,I also attended viewings of anime(series samplings consisting of the first two episodes).Yesterday, they showed fansubs of recent and/or current series;and the ones I tried out(Clannad and Rental Magica both seemed surreal to me).Today's viewings consisted of series already available in region 1:Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle isn't nearly as simple as the other universes of CLAMP(some characters are original ones not found on their other series). However,School Rumble(which I do have imported and domestic manga of but haven't managed to read yet)was full of hijinx(mainly 5 to 10-minute mini-episodes,similar in concept to a couple of other school-comedy anime);and I just had to get the DVD starter set at a booth.I also grabbed some domestic manga:all 4 volumes of the Majo no Takkyubin film manga, volume 4 of Nosatsu Junkie, and the respective first volumes of Madara(a franchise that also an anime OVA,a RPG video game, and a series of audio dramas;with Kappei-sama voicing the main character in all applicable versions)and Suzuka(which ended a 3-year serialization in Shuukan Shounen Magazine this past fall, later chapters can be found in the back issues I have)...

Quite frankly,it was a decent trade-off...

Well,Da Capo II is actually being fansubbed by 2 different groups.Though the group I follow has fallen behind the other group,I'm taking my chances with the second group's version at least for now...

Good thing the leather case on my ZEN Vision W is sturdy, because its belt clip doesn't always stay on my belt.In any case,I've ordered the 32GB version(largest capacity in its class)of Creative's new flash-memory ZEN as a spare.Large enough for my music collection and fansubs, this is only availble directly from Creative's online store and is often out of stock...

Happy 36th birthday to Ayumi Yoshida Yukiko Iwai...

ADV is replacing Newtype USA with the in-house PiQ.Due to circumstances involved, subscription renewal may not be necessary until around late 2010.In any case,I have every issue published not counting preview "issue zero..."

Well,Banri Hidaka's V.B. Rose is the latest current Hana to Yume serialization to become availble translated stateside...

Turns out I'm actually off on 2 of the three days Sac Anime is being held...

Happy birthday to both Nakuru Akizuki Ryouka Yuzuki(who turns 34)and Tomoya Misato Fukuen(who turns 26)...

The original anime voices are retained, and it's basically a whole bunch of mini-games.In most of the beginner level games, you actually play as Frappi...

Speaking of SS,I've nabbed a memo/stationary set via an eBay Buy It Now listing. In another BIN listing,I nabbed a recent back issue of Shuukan Shounen Magazine that partially fills the gap between 2 issues previously obtained at Oto's(where I'll surely stop by tomorrow)...

It's good to see Kousuke Fukudome come stateside, but his choice of team leaves a lot to be desired...

Happy birthday to Ryouko Touma Seguchi Jakotsu Ai Orikasa(who turns 44),Manami Sumie Baba(who turns 40),Saki Nijino Fueimei Li Sachiko Sagawara(who turns 39),and Yurika Misumaru Kirika Yuumura Marron Sango Houko Kuwashima(who turns 32)...

By dumb luck,on the way home from work,I managed to find volumes 4 and 26 of the original Japanese Ranma ½ manga at World's Best Comics. As the shop owner was unaware he had them in stock on the shelf,it turned out to be a steal of a deal at a buck a volume.Anyway,as VIZ's domestic releases are longer than the original Japanese releases,Japanese volume 4 corresponds to much of the domestic volume 3 while Japanese volume 26 falls anywhere between domestic volumes 20 and 25...

So far,no Tochirou 2 episodes into Space Symphony Maetel. If he surfaces in any of the next 3 episodes, maybe I'll download the required codec for episodes 6-13...

Happy birthday to Clow Reed Kazuo Hayashi(who turns 62)and Ikumi Sutou(who turns 22)...
